The Microbiologist II position will involve working in a state-of-the-art manufacturing laboratory, performing a variety of microbiological tasks, and offers a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in a fast-paced environment. The job requires a high level of flexibility due to the alternating 2-week schedule.
Microbiologist II Responsibilities:
- Assist with general lab duties including preparation of sterile growth medium, stock solutions, reagents, and general lab cleaning and dishwashing.
- Perform aseptic sampling of the manufacturing process.
- Conduct direct microscopy and plating while adhering to clean room protocols.
- Prepare, inoculate, and manage shake flasks using aseptic techniques.
- Prepare samples for analysis and analyze samples using various analytical instruments such as a microscope and spectrophotometer.
- Enter process and analytical data into Microsoft Excel.
- Provide experiment coverage in the evenings and, occasionally, weekends.
- Participate in safety initiatives within the organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 4-year college degree in a science field such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, or a related field.
- Laboratory experience via academic or prior position(s).
- Capable of independent work, with the ability to seek clarification as needed before starting tasks.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of standard safe laboratory practices and a commitment to working safely.
- Competency in aseptic culture techniques.
- Experience in the set-up and operation of lab-scale bioreactors.
