The Automation Project Engineer will develop and execute capital projects focused on the implementation of controls and automation of manufacturing processes. They will ensure the overall success for projects and is accountable to ensure the business outcomes of the projects are realized and sustainable.
Automation Project Engineer Responsibilities:
- Responsible for developing and ensuring the execution of the Controls & Automation workstreams of capital projects that will reengineer and or eliminate job duties, drive future of work initiatives, and develop consistent, repeatable processes that do not require significant human interaction.
- Serves as the SME for robotics and automation systems including prototyping, designing, integrating, and testing robotic and automation systems.
- Lead the definition of new application requirements & updating existing applications based on functional requirements.
- Provide cost/benefit tradeoff analysis to management.
- Deploy automation systems to the manufacturing floor and assure effective training for operations and maintenance.
- Design, create, develop and manage systems focused on process automation on the manufacturing line.
- Partner with operations leaders to solve business needs by integrating system solutions.
- Lead and execute manufacturing automation projects, ensuring the successful delivery of project outcomes. This includes developing the scope, budget, resources, implementation, and user acceptance.
- Provide communication about project updates to operations and technical leaders.
- Leads and engages single or cross-functional project teams, which are accountable for design, development and implementation of defined solutions.
- Ensures the roles and responsibilities are articulated to each team member, modified as required, and accomplished throughout the project.
- Builds and grows external partners’ capacity to augment achievement of business outcomes and provide innovative solutions to drive step change.
- Develops upfront communication of corporate vision, objectives and constraints.
- Plans and facilitates a seamless on-boarding plan for team members including project requirements, standards, testing procedures, templates, etc.
- Bachelor of Science degree, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with PLCs/HMI, drives, robots, motion controls and associated programming software as well as technical project management.
- PLC/Safety PLC/Safety Validation Programming/HMI programming/troubleshooting and support, including drives and line drive systems. (Rockwell and Siemens)
- Project Management experience including proven success of executing projects from initial scope and budget development through implementation and training.
- Excellent communication skills in a matrixed environment.
- Ability to travel 30-50%.
