The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing production costs, preparing reports, and providing insights to support financial decision-making at both the corporate and local levels. This role may also involve general financial accounting for the corporation and plays a critical role in optimizing manufacturing processes and improving profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze production costs and variances to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with financial standards.
- Develop and maintain cost systems for all products, including labor, materials, and overhead.
- Collaborate with production and purchasing teams to gather data for cost analysis and forecasting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports for management review.
- Monitor and analyze inventory levels to ensure proper valuation and reporting.
- Assist in the budgeting process by providing cost estimates and financial forecasts.
- Conduct cost-benefit analyses for new projects and initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing relevant documentation and reports.
- Stay current with industry trends and regulations affecting cost accounting practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, cost accounting methods, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, small-team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in cost accounting within a manufacturing environment.
