Automation & Controls Engineering Manager Overview 
The Automation & Controls Engineering Manager provides leadership for plant automation, controls, and electrical systems to support safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. This role leads automation projects, supervises Automation Technicians, supports maintenance and operations teams, and drives continuous improvement through reliability and TPM initiatives. 

Automation & Controls Engineering Manager Responsibilities 

  • Lead automation, controls, and electrical engineering support for manufacturing operations.  
  • Manage automation capital projects from planning through implementation.  
  • Supervise Automation Technicians, including scheduling, work assignments, and development.  
  • Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, drives, and industrial control systems.  
  • Support maintenance and operations with equipment reliability and root cause analysis.  
  • Develop automation strategies, control system standards, and equipment improvements.  
  • Train maintenance and operations personnel on automation technologies.  
  • Drive continuous improvement, predictive maintenance, and cost reduction initiatives.  
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, reliability processes, and Management of Change (MOC).  

Automation & Controls Engineering Manager Qualifications 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.  
  • 5+ years of automation and controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.  
  • Experience leading automation or capital projects.  
  • Strong knowledge of Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, motors, drives, and industrial control systems.  
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and automation equipment.  
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI standards, TPM, and maintenance best practices. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, project management, and organizational skills. 
  • Willingness to support off-shift, weekend, or holiday operations as needed.  
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.  

Automation & Controls Engineering Manager Preferred Qualifications 
  • Experience with process controls, facility electrical distribution, and equipment selection.  
  • Experience with Ignition, IP21, Wonderware, and PLC/HMI upgrades.  
  • Knowledge of 480V industrial electrical systems.  
  • TPM training or experience.
