Chemical Engineer

Kansas City, MO | $40 – $45 per hour

Overview

Our Kansas City Site 4 AI operates four active ingredient manufacturing lines that support the Crop Science business. Due to high activity levels and turnover over the past two years, the site has accumulated a backlog of action items, documentation updates, and improvement project work.

We are seeking a Chemical Engineer to support process operations teams in clearing this backlog while driving mid- to long-term improvement initiatives focused on process reliability, operations, and training. This role is primarily project- and improvement-focused, with responsibilities largely outside of daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with site technical and operations teams to resolve outstanding PHA, MOC, optimization, and other action items across four chemical processes.

  • Complete technical definition, validation, and reporting of environmental data required for permitting and annual regulatory reporting.

  • Review and update plant documentation, including startup, shutdown, and operations procedures as well as P&IDs, to improve clarity and usability.

  • Develop, document, and execute pressure safety design packages.

  • Partner with plant engineering teams to scope, document, and define implementation plans for process and reliability improvement projects.

  • Support enhancements to plant training programs, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related engineering discipline

  • 5+ years of experience in process measurement, chemical processes, or applications within manufacturing, industrial, or engineering environments

  • Strong knowledge of chemical processes, with the ability to analyze problems, make recommendations, and provide technical resolutions

  • Understanding of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements and associated risk management techniques

  • Ability to lead small groups as well as work independently

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in technical and non-technical contexts

  • Proficiency with intermediate computer skills (MS Office, data systems, etc.)
