Job Summary
The CNC Programmer is responsible for programming, setting up, and supporting CNC machining operations for extrusion tooling and related components. This role focuses on creating and optimizing Mastercam programs to support the manufacture, repair, and modification of extrusion dies, tooling, and production parts. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on machining knowledge and experience in an extrusion or tooling environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam for mills and/or lathes
- Program and support machining of extrusion dies, tooling, fixtures, and production components
- Collaborate with machinists to troubleshoot programs, setups, and machining issues
- Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and specifications to develop accurate toolpaths
- Select appropriate cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and machining strategies
- Support first-article runs and make program adjustments to improve quality and cycle time
- Work closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to meet manufacturing goals
- Maintain and update program documentation and revision control
- Ensure all work complies with safety, quality, and company standards
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing or tooling environment
- Strong proficiency with Mastercam (2D & 3D preferred)
- Experience programming CNC mills (lathes a plus)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and CAD models
- Solid understanding of machining processes, tooling, and materials
- Hands-on experience supporting machinists on the shop floor
- Experience in an extrusion shop or extrusion tooling environment
- Familiarity with aluminum extrusion dies and related tooling
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
- Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks or similar)
- Manufacturing / machine shop setting
- Standing, walking, and working near CNC equipment
- PPE required as needed
