Position Summary
The Electrical Controls Engineer is responsible for maintaining, programming, and troubleshooting electrical and control systems across all plant operations. This role ensures optimal performance and reliability of production and facility equipment, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and supports ISO and IATF compliance efforts. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in controls engineering, predictive maintenance, and process optimization, combined with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Tasks:
- Maintain and manage the maintenance database for generating work orders and preventive maintenance (PM) schedules.
- Develop, implement, and sustain a Predictive Maintenance program.
- Oversee spare parts inventory to minimize production downtime.
- Maintain and troubleshoot building equipment, including boilers, generators, switchgear, compressors, and related electrical and mechanical systems.
- Maintain and support automated systems involving robotics, electronics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Program, maintain, and troubleshoot all plant PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
- Lead and oversee the Continuous Improvement / Growth Committee initiatives.
- Keep detailed maintenance and PM documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
- Assist the Engineering Manager in preparing ISO and IATF documentation for quality reviews.
- Track and report performance metrics (KPIs) for maintenance activities.
- Provide technical assistance to Production and Quality departments to resolve performance and quality issues.
- Plan and support building and equipment projects, including coordination with contractors and external vendors.
- Participate in cross-functional teams such as Ergonomics, Safety, and Health Committees.
- Support the design and implementation of tooling, fixturing, and equipment improvements.
- Conduct and monitor training for maintenance personnel and ensure training compliance.
- Manage environmental waste, recycling, and sustainability initiatives.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with NFPA 70 and other applicable safety standards.
- Ensure proper use of PPE and enforce safety and shop rules fairly.
- Investigate and report workplace accidents and correct unsafe acts or conditions promptly.
- Serve as a liaison for external audits and inspections (IATF/ISO, OSHA, Magna, etc.).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Windows-based software and maintenance management systems.
- Strong knowledge of electronics, including PLCs and VFDs.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with team members, management, and external partners.
- Working knowledge of ISO/IATF standards and safety regulations.
