Fermentation Technician

The Fermentation Technician will support bench-scale fermentation and recovery processes. This hands-on role involves the setup, operation, cleaning, and maintenance of bioprocessing equipment, including bioreactors and downstream extraction systems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating within a team-based discovery environment.

The Fermentation Technician will support bench-scale fermentation and recovery processes. This hands-on role involves the setup, operation, cleaning, and maintenance of bioprocessing equipment, including bioreactors and downstream extraction systems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while collaborating within a team-based discovery environment.
Fermentation Technician Responsibilities:
- Prepare, assemble, and sterilize bench-scale bioreactors for fermentation operations
- Prepare complex sterile media and feed solutions following established SOPs
- Perform aseptic sampling from bioreactors and prepare samples for analytical testing
- Conduct routine cleaning, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of bioreactors and related equipment
- Monitor fermentation processes and recognize deviations from expected results
- Execute downstream recovery and purification techniques, including liquid-liquid and resin-based extractions
- Clean, maintain, and prepare downstream processing equipment such as extraction vessels, columns, and filtration systems
- Support centrifugation and other separation processes as needed
- Maintain detailed, accurate experimental and process records using an electronic lab notebook (ELN)
- Ensure all work complies with safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized laboratory environment
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support discovery and development efforts
- Maintain a high level of operational readiness for all assigned equipment
Fermentation Technician Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with upstream bioprocessing equipment, particularly bioreactors or fermentors
- Experience with aseptic techniques, including sterile media preparation and sampling
- Familiarity with downstream processing techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, centrifugation, or chromatography
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for laboratory equipment
