Purpose of the Job
The Heat Transfer & Fluid Flow Engineer – Fiber Manufacturing leads the development of new technologies from a fundamental science approach to deliver greater manufacturing productivity and product quality with capital-efficient operations.
 

Heat Transfer & Fluid Flow Engineer  Job Responsibilities:
Commitment to Safety

  • Identify and correct safety hazards in the workplace; improve process safety through Design Hazard Eliminations (DHEs).
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures and Owens Corning corporate policies.
Fiberization Process Development & Implementation
  • Expand fundamental knowledge of centrifugal fiberizing processes.
  • Translate knowledge into the development of fiberizing systems that significantly improve manufacturing productivity and product quality.
  • Advance the understanding of fiber collection and resulting pack structure.
  • Develop collection systems that improve weight distribution and pack structure to enhance thermal and mechanical properties.
  • Collaborate with extended teams to prototype new concepts rapidly.
  • Design and conduct experiments to validate new concepts.
  • Drive concepts through to plant-level implementation.
  • Leverage external partnerships to accelerate capabilities and innovation.
  • Produce thorough technical documentation.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
  • Create competitive advantage by framing business opportunities and aligning technology approaches.
  • Partner horizontally with Enterprise Innovation teams and functional partners.
  • Collaborate externally to accelerate solutions and deepen material understanding.
  • Support the growth and success of others, despite no direct people leadership responsibilities.
  • Maintain strong organization and communication when working with peers.
  • Apply project management tools for structured execution.
  • Demonstrate curiosity, resilience, optimism, and achievement focus, serving as a stabilizing influence during uncertainty.
 

Heat Transfer & Fluid Flow Engineer Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
  • MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in thermal/fluid sciences (Aeronautical/Chemical Engineering degree with applicable experience may be considered).
  • Experience in mechanical design, drawings, and standards.
  • 0–5 years of industrial design/operations experience.
  • Willingness to travel 25–35%.
Preferred Experience
  • Proficiency with commercial CAD, CFD codes, and FEA codes.
  • Experience in design/testing of high-temperature systems with material selection challenges.
  • Experience in design/testing of high-speed rotating systems.
  • Work experience in extreme environments with limited measurement access.
  • Knowledge of combustion system design and/or modeling.
  • Knowledge of induction heating and alternative fuels/decarbonization.
