Job Summary
An Interventional Radiology Tech assists physicians in performing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures used for diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions within the field of Interventional Radiology. The tech plays a key role in patient care before, during, and after procedures while ensuring safety, accuracy, and high-quality imaging support in a fast-paced procedural environment such as the Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology suite.
Responsibilities
- Assist physicians during interventional procedures including angiograms, angioplasty, stent placements, biopsies, drain placements, and vascular interventions.
- Prepare and maintain sterile field, instruments, supplies, and imaging equipment.
- Scrub, circulate, and assist with procedural setup and breakdown.
- Position patients and imaging equipment (C-arm) for optimal visualization.
- Monitor patient status including vital signs, ECG, oxygen saturation, and hemodynamics.
- Perform patient prep including assessment of history, labs, allergies, medications, and consent verification.
- Start and maintain IV access and administer oxygen as ordered.
- Assist with sedation monitoring and medication administration under physician supervision.
- Support vascular access site management and hemostasis post-procedure.
- Perform radiographic imaging and fluoroscopy (if ARRT certified).
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures, patient data, and imaging records.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and healthcare team members to ensure safe and efficient workflow.
- Provide patient education regarding procedures and post-procedure care.
- Follow infection control, radiation safety, and hospital regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Current state Radiographer license
- Current ARRT certification required.
- BLS certification required (AHA).
- ACLS certification preferred or required within timeframe of hire.
- Advanced ARRT certification in Cardiovascular (CV), Cardiac Interventional (CI), or Vascular Interventional (VI) preferred.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, sterile technique, and radiation safety.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced procedural environment.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
- RCIS certification preferred (for Cath Lab-focused roles).
