The Laboratory Technician will play a key role in supporting environmental fate research by working closely with the research team to plan, set up, and execute laboratory experiments. This position involves hands-on work with environmental samples, laboratory instrumentation, and automation equipment to generate high-quality data that supports ongoing studies. The technician will assist in maintaining a safe and organized lab environment, follow established protocols, and collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate results.

The Laboratory Technician will play a key role in supporting environmental fate research by working closely with the research team to plan, set up, and execute laboratory experiments. This position involves hands-on work with environmental samples, laboratory instrumentation, and automation equipment to generate high-quality data that supports ongoing studies. The technician will assist in maintaining a safe and organized lab environment, follow established protocols, and collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate results.
Laboratory Technician Responsibilities:
- Set up and conduct environmental fate experiments using environmental samples such as soil, including extraction, cleanup, and liquid chromatography analysis
- Operate and maintain laboratory automation equipment (e.g., automated liquid handlers, solids dispensers) to run high-throughput assays
- Perform experiments using carbon-14 radioactive isotope materials and instrumentation for radioactive residue measurements
- Assist in developing new environmental fate assays with guidance from subject matter experts
- Collaborate closely with team members to meet project deadlines and ensure accurate results
- Maintain laboratory organization, including proper handling and disposal of waste
- Follow all safety and radiation protocols in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations
Laboratory Technician Qualifications:
- High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field preferred
- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and standard analytical equipment
- Proficient with computer systems and common software (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Commitment to following strict safety protocols
- Willingness to work with carbon-14 radioactive materials
