Laboratory Technician

Laboratory Technician will assist under supervision, follow established procedures, and conduct routine laboratory activities in support of research and development efforts. This role includes data management tasks, operation of small-scale production equipment, and participation in seed quality testing with a focus on vigor and viability through germination tests. The technician will be responsible for producing experimental results, assembling and configuring equipment, documenting findings, and communicating outcomes effectively.

Laboratory Technician will assist under supervision, follow established procedures, and conduct routine laboratory activities in support of research and development efforts. This role includes data management tasks, operation of small-scale production equipment, and participation in seed quality testing with a focus on vigor and viability through germination tests. The technician will be responsible for producing experimental results, assembling and configuring equipment, documenting findings, and communicating outcomes effectively.
Laboratory Technician Responsibilities:
- Conduct seed vigor and viability testing, including evaluation of seedlings based on established testing criteria.
- Plant germination tests by accurately shaking and sorting kernels onto germination substrates.
- Place germination tests into appropriate controlled growth environments.
- Perform sample aspiration and assess seed samples for purity and quality.
- Conduct seed corn kernel sizing in a production-like environment.
- Maintain high attention to detail while performing repetitive tasks.
- Identify and suggest improvements to laboratory methods and processes.
- Plan and execute short-term projects of limited scope and duration.
- Troubleshoot when unexpected or erroneous results occur during testing.
- Follow all safety procedures and standard operating protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of experimental data and laboratory activities.
- Operate small-scale production equipment and control systems.
- Communicate findings effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Bachelor or Associate Degree in Biology, Microbiology or a related field preferred.
- Previous laboratory experience, preferably in an agricultural research environment.
- Ability to accurately evaluate plant seedlings based on standardized criteria.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks with precision.
- Ability to work independently and within a team under supervision.
- Willingness and ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
