We are seeking a skilled Machinist to program and operate 3-axis and 5-axis vertical machining centers, lathes, and conventional non-CNC machines to produce prototype and low-volume parts. This role requires strong technical knowledge of modern machining processes, CNC programming, tooling, and fixture planning. The Machinist will collaborate closely with engineers and designers to ensure parts meet all design specifications and quality standards. This contract position offers long-term potential for the right candidate and plays a key role in supporting multiple customers with high-quality, on-time manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate CNC machining centers (3-axis and 5-axis), lathes, and conventional machines.
  • Manufacture prototype and small-quantity parts according to engineering drawings, models, and design intent.
  • Set up machining operations, including selecting cutting tools, planning tool paths, and creating appropriate work-holding fixtures.
  • Interpret and review CAD models, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
  • Adjust machine settings and tooling to optimize performance, accuracy, and part quality.
  • Inspect and measure completed parts to ensure conformance with tolerances and design specifications.
  • Maintain safe operating conditions, following all safety protocols and proper machine-handling procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers for clarification on custom components and to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Provide manufacturing support and technical expertise to meet customer requirements and project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience with both modern machining processes and conventional machining tools.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming, including entering design specifications and validating machine operation.
  • Experience planning fixtures, selecting tools, and securing materials for machining operations.
  • Ability to adjust machine settings to improve quality, accuracy, and throughput.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM software packages and related file types.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, geometric dimensioning, and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Skilled in inspecting and measuring machined parts to ensure they meet design criteria.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and machine integrity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers and designers to clarify requirements and refine processes.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally and up to 50 lbs infrequently.
