The Medical Assistant 2 serves as the first point of contact for patient care and is responsible for both clinical and administrative functions. This role involves moderately complex operational and customer support tasks, often working under minimal supervision on semi-routine assignments. The Medical Assistant 2 must interpret department policies, follow established procedures, and exercise discretion when needed.
Medical Assistant 2 Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Discuss patient symptoms and input data into the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
- Take vital signs and perform diagnostic testing
- Administer injections and collect specimens
- Draw blood and perform phlebotomy procedures
- Clean and sterilize equipment
- Maintain exam rooms and ensure cleanliness and readiness
- Provide direct patient care as allowed by active certification
- Collaborate closely with Physicians and Nurses in a clinical setting
- Perform computations and data entry
- Manage documentation and patient records
- Participate in semi-routine administrative support tasks
- Prioritize tasks within set quality standards and timelines
- Follow standard practices with occasional discretion or deviation
Medical Assistant 2 Required Qualifications:
- 1–3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a back-office direct patient care setting
- Active State licensure (RMA/CMA) in field of study
- Current CPR certification
- Hands-on phlebotomy experience
- Bilingual Proficiency (English/Spanish) REQUIRED
- Less than 2 years of professional leadership experience
- Must comply with Tuberculosis (TB) screening program
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience in high-volume/fast-paced clinical environments
- Familiarity with MS Outlook and basic computer skills
- Passion for improving patient experiences and outcomes
Medical Assistant 2 Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Prior experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Familiarity with HEDIS measures and reporting
- Active Medical Assistant Certification or Registration from one or more of the following:
- American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
- National Healthcareer Association
- American Registry of Medical Assistants
- National Association for Health Professionals
- American Medical Technologists
- Radiologic Technologist License (AART)
