We’re seeking an experienced Mold Maker to join our team and take a lead role in maintaining and rebuilding a wide variety of complex plastic injection molds. This is a hands-on role for a highly skilled tooling professional who can work independently, solve problems methodically, and take ownership of mold performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Disassemble, clean, troubleshoot, repair, and reassemble high-cavitation and complex injection molds with minimal supervision
- Operate in-house machine shop equipment, including milling machines, lathes, surface grinders, profile grinders, and sinker EDMs to perform tool rework or fabricate new components
- Diagnose mold and part defects, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Measure and verify tooling stack-ups, preloads, clearances, and fits, both static and dynamic, using precision measuring tools and technical prints
- Maintain and troubleshoot hot runner systems, including heaters, thermocouples, probes, and manifolds across various brands and configurations
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to ensure molds run efficiently and consistently meet production requirements
- Document all maintenance and repairs clearly and accurately in mold history logs and digital tracking systems
- Mentor and support less-experienced mold makers or apprentices on best practices and safety protocols
- Ensure all work is performed in a safe, clean, and organized environment that meets internal and external audit standards
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on mold maintenance, repair, and fabrication experience in an injection molding environment
- Proficient with manual and CNC machine tools, with the ability to fabricate or modify tooling as needed
- Deep understanding of mold design, function, and construction, including venting, cooling, polishing, and parting lines
- Strong working knowledge of hot runner systems, tool steels, and surface treatments/platings
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and part/mold specifications
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a methodical and meticulous work style
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills (Bonus):
- Welding and brazing (MIG/TIG)
- CNC programming and operation experience
- Experience with mold design or building
- Computer literacy for digital maintenance systems
