Operational Excellence Specialist

The Operational Excellence Specialist supports efforts to drive operational effectiveness and efficiency in the supply chain by identifying, leading, and facilitating projects focused on optimizing manufacturing and distribution processes. This role reports to a Continuous Improvement Sr. Manager and works closely with cross-functional teams across the organization to achieve operational excellence targets and contribute to the overall OpEx strategy.


Operational Excellence Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate plant efficiencies and drive cost savings through effective collaboration with cross-functional teams executing process improvement projects.
  • Lead and facilitate Kaizen, SMED, DMAIC, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with business leadership to perform process analysis and recommend improvements.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and develop actionable recommendations with team input.
  • Manage and execute projects on time, within budget, and aligned to targets utilizing disciplined project management methodologies.
  • Support and coach Daily Management Systems while mentoring front-line leadership.
  • Build operator capability through training and development of SOPs, Work Instructions, and One-Point Lessons.
  • Communicate recommendations, progress, and results to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Maintain a Quality mindset throughout initiatives, supporting Change Controls and other Quality activities as needed.
  • Track and report on project progress, key metrics, and cost savings achieved.
  • Facilitate training and workshops to build knowledge and drive change through continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by building relationships and engaging with all levels of the organization as a champion for Operational Excellence.

Operational Excellence Specialist Requirements:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Certified Green Belt or equivalent certification in Six Sigma or Lean strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Continuous Improvement/Operational Excellence roles within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in a heavily regulated industry (e.g., FDA, EPA) preferred.
  • Proficient in data gathering, analysis, and modeling using tools such as MS Office, Minitab, Visio, Power BI, Smartsheet, or similar applications.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with senior management.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and influence individuals and teams to drive sustainable improvement.
  • Train, coach, and mentor individuals, teams, and projects.
  • This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and support the Sr. Manager in prioritizing and coordinating improvement activities.
  • Occasional overnight travel required.
  • Travel between company locations as needed.
