$70,000 - $95,000 annually + 8% target bonus
The Payroll Manager will oversee payroll operations for U.S. and Canadian employees, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant processing across multiple jurisdictions. This highly visible role serves as the point person for payroll tax compliance, timekeeping, benefits deductions, GL reconciliation, and continuous improvement initiatives.This is a hybrid position based in Akron, OH, with flexibility to work remotely three days a week.
Payroll Manager Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle payroll processing for ~2,000 employees across the U.S. and Canada, including salaried and hourly staff on bi-weekly and weekly schedules
- Oversee and support a team of 3 payroll processors, ensuring timely and accurate submissions and benefit payments
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations; coordinate with third-party tax service providers
- ADP supports Canadian payroll processing and tax filings in partnership with internal teams
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and assist with monthly close activities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries and issue resolution
- Support internal and external audits (401K, payroll tax, financial audits, etc.)
- Partner closely with HR, IT, and Finance to maintain data integrations and support system enhancements
- Train and support payroll team members; maintain accurate timekeeping, documentation, processing guides, and checklists
- Provide ad hoc payroll reporting and assist with benefits surveys, renewals, and other compliance or finance-related reporting needs
Payroll Manager Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of payroll and accounting experience
- Experience with Ceridian Dayforce payroll or similar systems required
- Timekeeping systems required
- Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, GL reconciliation, and benefits administration
- CPP designation preferred
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and IT teams
