Pilot Plant Technician
Midland, MIA Pilot Plant Assistant Technician is responsible for supporting chemical process scale-up operations in a pilot plant environment. This role helps transition chemical processes from laboratory scale to intermediate production scale by assisting with batching, equipment preparation, process monitoring, and safe material handling. The position is ideal for individuals entering the chemical manufacturing field who are eager to learn, grow, and advance into full technician-level work.
Responsibilities
- Handle and transport raw materials, intermediates, and finished products according to safety and quality standards.
- Assist with daily operational tasks, including equipment readiness checks, inspections, rounds, and routine checklists.
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment through general housekeeping and organizing deliveries.
- Support the development of operating procedures for new processes and equipment setups.
- Learn to safely operate unit operations such as reactors, distillation systems, filtration, drying, packaging, and process-control equipment.
- Assist Technicians with process operations, batch record documentation, sample collection, and monitoring process data.
- Participate in equipment maintenance tasks, including basic mechanical work such as pipe fitting, demolition, and tube bending.
- Help troubleshoot operational or mechanical issues as they arise.
- Identify maintenance needs and assist with equipment preparation before maintenance activities.
- Develop the skills and technical capabilities required to progress into a full Technician role.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude; interest in chemical processing or industrial operations.
- Commitment to safety, including willingness to follow all environmental, health, and safety protocols.
- Ability to learn how to operate industrial equipment (forklifts, lifts, etc.).
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with technicians, engineers, and R&D staff.
- Willingness to improve troubleshooting skills and technical knowledge continuously.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Comfortable working in environments that require PPE such as respirators, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
- Able to perform physical tasks including bending, reaching, lifting, climbing ladders, and standing/walking for extended periods.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship available.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or 2+ years industrial experience preferred.
