Plastic Injection Mold Maker – Advanced (Consumer Goods – B2C, OTC Products)
Location: Akron, Ohio
Relocation Assistance Provided | Competitive Pay Offered

We are seeking a highly experienced Plastic Injection Mold Maker to join our high-performance team focused on delivering world-class OTC consumer goods. The ideal candidate will bring 7–10 years of advanced experience in mold making, troubleshooting, and optimization within plastic injection molding environments, preferably in consumer-facing product lines. A Plastic Injection Mold Operator must have experience with caps and closures in highly regulated environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble, clean, repair, troubleshoot, and reassemble a wide range of complex, high-cavitation injection molds.
  • Analyze mold/tooling issues and identify root causes for defects such as flash, short shots, warp, or dimensional deviations.
  • Operate all in-house toolroom equipment including mills, lathes, surface grinders, sinker EDM, and profile grinders to fabricate or rework components.
  • Ensure all molds are production-ready upon return with zero rework or adjustments required.
  • Execute static and dynamic mold stack-up measurements to confirm clearances, preloads, and component fits using precision instruments.
  • Work closely with engineering and production teams to recommend and implement tooling improvements.
  • Lead or mentor junior toolmakers and apprentices in best practices.
  • Maintain accurate mold maintenance records and ensure documentation is compliant and up to date.
  • Support preventive maintenance programs and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across tooling processes.

Qualifications:

  • 7–10 years of hands-on experience in injection mold making and troubleshooting in a consumer goods or OTC manufacturing environment, especially capsules, closures, caps, pumps, valves, and actuated dispensing parts.
  • Familiarity with thin-wall, multicavity, and complex action molds. Deep understanding of tooling tolerances, and final requirements for plastic parts critical to fluid dispensing systems and child-restraint closures.
  • Advanced machining skills and full proficiency with manual machine tools and shop instrumentation.
  • Experience with hot runner systems (diagnostics, repairs, tip replacement, heater/TC testing).
  • Strong understanding of mold construction, venting, cooling, and polishing standards for B2C applications.
  • Able to work independently and provide leadership within the toolroom.
  • Familiar with mold design, blueprint reading, and CAD interpretation is a plus.
  • Welding (MIG/TIG), brazing, or CNC experience is a strong bonus.
