This role ensures the project is delivered on time, on budget, and aligned with clinical, operational, regulatory, and workflow requirements. The position serves as the primary liaison among internal leadership, clinic stakeholders, NextGen, and all technical vendors, ensuring technical readiness, smooth adoption, and ongoing stability of the EHR environment.

The Technical Lead & Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the NextGen Electronic Health Record (EHR) system across multiple clinic sites. This role ensures the project is delivered on time, on budget, and aligned with clinical, operational, regulatory, and workflow requirements. The position serves as the primary liaison among internal leadership, clinic stakeholders, NextGen, and all technical vendors, ensuring technical readiness, smooth adoption, and ongoing stability of the EHR environment.
Technical Lead & Project Manager Responsibilities:
- Lead the full lifecycle of the NextGen EHR implementation across tribal clinics
- Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, status reports, and deliverables
- Facilitate project meetings, track milestones, and ensure cross-team alignment
- Oversee system configuration, infrastructure readiness, and integration with clinical services, including primary care, after-hours services, behavioral health, lab, pharmacy, billing, and reporting
- Ensure compliance with network, hardware, cybersecurity, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements
- Collaborate with IT/IS service providers on technical support, device setup, connectivity, and ongoing system maintenance
- Conduct workflow assessments and map clinical, pharmacy, and administrative processes to NextGen functionality
- Customize workflows, templates, forms, and role-based user configurations to meet tribal operational needs
- Support change management; coordinate training and readiness activities for go-live
- Serve as the main liaison with NextGen and all technical vendors
- Coordinate procurement of equipment, software setup, and system integration tasks
- Communicate technical requirements, project updates, and risks to tribal and clinic leadership
- Manage testing processes, including unit, system, workflow, and user acceptance testing (UAT)
- Lead go-live operations, oversee issue tracking and resolution, and manage the 30–90 day stabilization period
- Identify opportunities for post-go-live optimization and system enhancements
Technical Lead & Project Manager Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a technical lead and/or project manager for NextGen EHR implementations
- Strong project management skills; proficiency with project scheduling and tracking tools
- NextGen certification or direct hands-on experience configuring NextGen HER preferred
- PMP; experience with Smartsheet preferred
- Working knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and healthcare cybersecurity best practices preferred
