The Value Stream Manager provides leadership and accountability for the overall operation of a value stream. The position drives lean manufacturing initiatives, ensures a safe and efficient work environment, and focuses on profitable growth, quality improvement, and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations and aligning performance with short- and long-term business objectives.
Value Stream Manager Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop Production Supervisors and associates, including performance management, hiring decisions, and budget oversight.
  • Manage all aspects of the value stream, ensuring effective decision-making, rapid implementation, and alignment with operational goals.
  • Own value stream financial performance, including P&L management, cost analysis, margin improvement, and productivity targets.
  • Drive lean manufacturing strategies and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement through regular engagement with supervisors and teams.
  • Oversee daily production activities, including scheduling, supply chain coordination, and shipment execution.
  • Promote flow, pull systems, and workload leveling to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure adherence to standardized work, safety requirements, and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Build a positive team environment through communication, accountability, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving tools (e.g., PDCA) and visual management systems to drive performance.
  • Support cross-training initiatives to ensure workforce flexibility and operational continuity.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute future-state value stream strategies.
Value Stream Manager Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience managing complex projects or teams.
  • Experience with P&L ownership and a strong understanding of manufacturing operations, finance, and workforce management.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive results, and develop talent.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence change.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives preferred.
