Application Engineer

The Application Engineer serves as a key technical expert supporting internal teams and external customers across the materials testing product line. This role partners with Sales, Marketing, and customers to provide hands-on technical support, product demonstrations, application development, and training. The ideal candidate combines strong materialographic expertise with presentation skills, a structured problem-solving approach, and a passion for educating customers.
Application Engineer Responsibilities:
- Provide technical and application support for materials testing equipment to internal and external customers.
- Prepare and evaluate customer samples and develop preparation procedures and best practices.
- Conduct product demonstrations in-house, on-site at customer facilities, at trade shows, and via virtual platforms such as WebEx.
- Deliver technical training programs for customers and internal teams.
- Develop and implement educational training materials and courses.
- Support Sales in technical discussions and opportunity conversion.
- Present technical content through webinars, conferences, workshops, and industry events.
- Assist customers in troubleshooting and resolving quality issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean activities such as 5S.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with materialographic sample preparation and microscopy required.
- Experience with hardness testing and/or image analysis software preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO and ASTM standards, including ISO 17025, ASTM E10, E18, and E92/E384.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other technical software applications.
- Strong presentation and product demonstration skills, both in person and virtually.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Structured, analytical, and collaborative problem-solving approach.
- Clean driving record and ability to travel domestically and internationally, including overnight travel.
