Travel Surgical Technologist
Location: Cleveland Ohio
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is responsible for providing skilled assistance in the operating room to ensure safe and efficient surgical procedures. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses, the CST prepares the operating environment, maintains sterile technique, and anticipates the needs of the surgical team throughout the procedure. The ideal candidate demonstrates attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile drapes.
- Verify and arrange supplies, ensuring availability of all required surgical tools and implants.
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic and sterile techniques during procedures.
- Assist surgeons during operations by passing instruments, sponges, and other supplies.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly to requests.
- Count instruments, sponges, and sharps before, during, and after surgery to ensure patient safety.
- Handle specimens properly and prepare them for laboratory analysis.
- Clean, decontaminate, and prepare instruments for sterilization after procedures.
- Monitor and maintain proper functioning of surgical equipment.
- Collaborate with circulating nurses and other OR staff to provide seamless patient care.
- Support patient safety initiatives and maintain compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.
- Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical procedures, and instrument handling.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Prior operating room experience preferred, but new graduates will be considered.
