Embedded Firmware Engineer Job Summary
The Embedded Firmware Engineer will develop, implement, and validate embedded software and firmware for Eaton’s power electronics and Battery Management System (BMS) products. This role will focus heavily on DSPs and microcontrollers, including programming, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting embedded systems. The engineer will also support the adoption of model-based design techniques, including simulation and automatic code generation, throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) process. This position requires close collaboration with hardware, systems, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver reliable, integrated power conversion and battery management solutions.

Embedded Firmware Engineer Job Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for power electronics and BMS products.
- Program DSPs and microcontrollers using C/C++.
- Test, debug, and troubleshoot embedded firmware using debugging tools, simulators, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) systems.
- Support the development and validation of firmware throughout the NPI process.
- Utilize and promote model-based design methodologies, including system modeling, simulation, and automatic code generation.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, and cross-functional engineering teams to develop integrated solutions.
- Analyze and resolve software and system-level issues to improve product performance and reliability.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including software specifications, design documentation, test plans, and Design Verification Test (DVT) reports.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of embedded software development processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience developing embedded software/firmware for embedded systems.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience programming DSPs and/or microcontrollers.
- Strong programming experience in C or C++ for DSP and/or microcontroller-based systems.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Experience with embedded software testing, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with model-based design, simulation, and automatic code generation is preferred.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and embedded debugging tools is a plus.
- Strong written, verbal, and cross-functional communication skills.
