OR Scheduler

The OR Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and managing surgical case scheduling within a high-volume, hospital-based Operating Room environment. This role requires recent, hands-on experience scheduling surgical procedures and operating room cases in an acute care hospital setting. Candidates without direct hospital OR scheduling experience will not be considered.
OR Scheduler Responsibilities:
Schedule and coordinate surgical procedures for hospital Operating Rooms
Manage complex OR case bookings across multiple surgical specialties and providers
Coordinate directly with surgeons, physician offices, anesthesia teams, perioperative nursing, sterile processing, and ancillary departments
Review surgical postings for accuracy including procedure details, diagnosis/procedure codes, surgeon preferences, required instrumentation, equipment needs, and case lengths
Enter and maintain surgical case information within the scheduling/EMR system
Communicate urgent add-ons, schedule changes, cancellations, and updates to all appropriate clinical departments
Maintain OR schedule accuracy to support daily surgical throughput and operational efficiency
Ensure all scheduling activities align with hospital perioperative workflows and Operating Room protocols
OR Scheduler Requirements:
REQUIRED: Minimum 1 year of recent Operating Room scheduling experience within an acute care hospital
REQUIRED: Direct experience scheduling surgical procedures, OR cases, or procedural cases in a hospital Operating Room department
Candidates with only outpatient surgery center, clinic, medical office, front desk, or general medical scheduling experience will NOT be considered
Cerner experience strongly preferred
Strong understanding of perioperative workflows, surgical scheduling processes, and hospital OR operations
Knowledge of medical terminology, surgical procedures, physician orders, and surgical documentation required
Experience working directly with surgeons, physician offices, and hospital clinical teams required
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced hospital environment with frequent schedule changes and urgent case updates
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple high-priority surgical cases simultaneously
