Job Summary
 
The Litigation Legal Assistant must have at least 3 years of experience to support our Cleveland office. This individual will provide administrative and legal support to attorneys and paralegals while helping ensure the delivery of exceptional client service. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment. All employees are expected to maintain a client-first approach and provide professional, high-quality service.
 
Litigation Legal Assistant Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent client service by greeting visitors, responding to requests, coordinating meetings, and arranging telephone conferences.
  • Deliver administrative and legal support to Litigation attorneys and paralegals, with the potential to assist other practice areas as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail when completing assignments and preparing legal documents.
  • Handle confidential client information and legal matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Manage competing priorities, respond promptly to requests, and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Communicate and coordinate with court personnel, attorneys, and staff to exchange information, answer questions, and resolve issues.
  • Prepare, draft, and proofread correspondence, letters, and memoranda in accordance with firm standards.
  • Monitor litigation deadlines and proactively follow up on upcoming dates and required filings.
  • Process payment requests, expense reimbursements, and other administrative transactions.
  • Create, organize, maintain, and close files in accordance with the firm's information governance policies.
  • Assist with client correspondence, email management, document organization, and incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and colleagues.
  • Transcribe attorney dictation and prepare documents as needed.
  • Electronically file pleadings and other legal documents with the courts.
  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, and court filings as directed by attorneys.
 
Litigation Legal Assistant Requirements
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Litigation Legal Assistant in a law firm or similar legal environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and other commonly used applications.
  • Familiarity with Kofax/Nuance, InTapp, LMS+, iManage, or similar legal software is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of litigation procedures, court processes, and general court operations.
  • Ability to review, recognize, and understand pleadings and other documents associated with litigation matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to use sound judgment, apply common sense, and resolve problems independently while following verbal and written instructions.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work additional hours beyond a standard 40-hour workweek when necessary.
  • Additional education beyond high school or relevant legal coursework is preferred.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and other litigation-related materials.
