The Maintenance Engineering Technician II is an experienced, hands-on maintenance position responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying production and packaging equipment within a manufacturing environment. This individual works with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, piping, automation, and control systems while supporting equipment reliability and continuous improvement.
Maintenance Engineering Technician II Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair packaging machinery, production equipment, physical structures, piping, and electrical systems.
- Diagnose mechanical equipment problems and complete necessary repairs.
- Build, test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify production equipment, components, parts, and systems according to engineering instructions.
- Analyze maintenance and equipment data and recommend process or work-instruction improvements.
- Visually inspect and test machinery using electrical and electronic testing equipment.
- Recommend, review, design, implement, and audit preventative maintenance routines and procedures.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and develop appropriate repair plans.
- Dismantle defective equipment and install new or repaired components according to specifications and blueprints.
- Fabricate and assemble new or modified mechanical and electrical components.
- Install and maintain piping systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Repair and replace gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
- Complete equipment and floor layouts and install hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Maintain engineering drawings, equipment layouts, as-built drawings, structural drawings, and other technical records.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and preventative maintenance procedures.
- Establish testing procedures, document results, perform analysis and calculations, and recommend equipment or testing improvements.
- Set up qualification testing, including IQ/OQ/PQ.
- Install, repair, modify, and upgrade new and existing processes and equipment.
- Work with Engineering, Production Maintenance, and Manufacturing leadership to establish priorities and communicate project or assignment status.
- Calibrate pressure, torque, temperature, flowmeters, and balances using appropriate testing equipment.
- Serve as a technical resource to others when resolving complex equipment problems.
- Orient, train, assign, and review the work of Maintenance Mechanics.
- Provide coverage for the Calibration Technician when needed.
- Install, program, and repair automated machinery, including robots and programmable controllers.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, grinders, drills, and milling machines to repair or fabricate parts, jigs, fixtures, and tools.
- Operate cutting torches and welding equipment to cut or join metal components.
- Perform work in accordance with established safety procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Follow appropriate procedures for hazardous waste, universal waste, and used oil.
Maintenance Engineering Technician II Key Responsibilities:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 5–8 years of progressive experience within maintenance/manufacturing engineering technology.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision while handling duties ranging from routine assignments to complex manufacturing technology issues.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
- Ability to read and work from specifications, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments, hand tools, and electrical/electronic testing equipment.
- Experience with automated machinery, robots, and/or programmable controllers.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and equipment troubleshooting.
- Ability to serve as a technical resource and assist with training other Maintenance Mechanics.
