The Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator will support a high-volume pediatric outpatient behavioral health practice by managing patient intake, registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and prior authorization processes. This onsite role will work closely with patients, families, providers, and insurance companies to coordinate care across multiple specialty clinics while delivering compassionate, professional customer service.

The Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator will support a high-volume pediatric outpatient behavioral health practice by managing patient intake, registration, scheduling, insurance verification, and prior authorization processes. This onsite role will work closely with patients, families, providers, and insurance companies to coordinate care across multiple specialty clinics while delivering compassionate, professional customer service.
Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator Responsibilities:
- Conduct high-volume telephone intakes for new patients by collecting clinical, demographic, insurance, and financial information.
- Complete patient registration, distribute required intake materials, and schedule appointments into the appropriate specialty clinic based on patient needs.
- Verify insurance eligibility, review benefits and copays, obtain prior authorizations, and coordinate required documentation with physicians, families, and insurance companies.
- Triage referrals according to department guidelines, manage patient waitlists, and coordinate referrals to specialty clinics or community resources.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the EMR while providing compassionate, professional support to pediatric patients and families in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of 4 years of recent healthcare administrative, patient access, medical office, or patient registration experience is required.
- Recent patient intake experience within a mental health, behavioral health, psychology, psychiatry, or neuropsychology practice is required.
- Experience with high-volume phone intake, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorizations, and EMR documentation is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel, is required.
- Candidates should have excellent communication, customer service, organization, multitasking, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to handle sensitive patient information professionally and discreetly.
