Machinist Overview 
The Machinist is responsible for advanced setup, operation, and troubleshooting of machining equipment. This role independently resolves non-routine issues, ensures quality and efficiency, and identifies process improvements that enhance cost, delivery, and performance. The position also supports team development and may assist in training other machinists. 
 
Machinist Responsibilities 
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot machining equipment safely and efficiently  
  • Perform machine start-up, shutdown, and material loading processes  
  • Make tooling and fixture changes, adjustments, and setups  
  • Inspect parts visually and dimensionally to meet quality standards  
  • Complete required documentation and production records  
  • Identify and escalate machine malfunctions and part discrepancies  
  • Preset tooling and perform preventative maintenance  
  • Adjust speeds, feeds, and machining parameters as needed  
  • Troubleshoot issues related to setup, tooling, and non-conformance  
  • Diagnose and respond to program alarms  
  • Suggest and support process and scheduling improvements  
  • Train and mentor less experienced team members  
  • Modify part programs and assist with equipment repairs as needed  
 
Machinist Qualifications 
  • High school diploma or equivalent  
  • Advanced knowledge of machining processes, equipment, and tooling  
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills  
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment  
  • Effective communication skills  
  • Experience operating machining equipment, including part loading/unloading and inspection  
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, comparators, gages)  
  • Ability to identify and correct tooling and machining issues (tool holders, collets, chucks, etc.)  
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve minor mechanical equipment malfunctions 
  • Conventional Machines: Screw machines – Acme-Gridley, New Britain, and Warner & Swasey (Brands) “Trucker”
  • CNC: 90% Lathes but open to milling experience
