Mechanical Engineer II Overview
This role is responsible for the design, development, analysis, and technical support of AC and DC air-cooled and oil-cooled rotating machinery. The engineer will support the full product lifecycle, including proposals, development, testing, and production. Mechanical Engineer II Overview
This role is responsible for the design, development, analysis, and technical support of AC and DC air-cooled and oil-cooled rotating machinery. The engineer will support the full product lifecycle, including proposals, development, testing, and production. This position works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance, manufacturable designs while meeting customer specifications and project timelines.
Mechanical Engineer II Responsibilities
- Design components and assemblies for rotating machinery to meet performance and customer requirements
- Develop CAD 3D models and 2D drawings, including tolerance stack-ups, bearing load, and pre-load calculations\
- Ensure designs meet internal engineering standards and industry requirements, including GD&T and design for manufacturability
- Participate in technical reviews (design, manufacturing, testing) and provide recommendations to resolve issues and mitigate risk
- Adhere to project budgets and timelines while supporting engineering deliverables
Review customer specifications and assist with proposals, cost estimates, test procedures, and technical documentation - Support development of BOMs, schedules, and engineering reports
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues for both new product development and existing products
- Communicate project status, risks, and challenges clearly with internal teams and leadership
- Assist with testing and validation of new and legacy products
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, and engineering processes
- Travel occasionally (approximately once per quarter), including potential domestic and international travel
- Support off-hours work as needed during peak project timelines
Mechanical Engineer II Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
4+ years of experience in mechanical engineering within a product design and manufacturing environment - Experience with rotating machinery design (motors, generators, or similar systems)
Strong understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and blueprints - Experience with CAD tools for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation
- Solid problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
- Familiarity with basic measurement tools and equipment
Mechanical Engineer II Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with bearing system design
- Knowledge of wound components and rotor dynamics
- Experience with oil and air cooling systems
- Familiarity with industry standards such as DO-160, ARP4754A, ARP4761
- Experience with CATIA or similar advanced CAD platforms
Mechanical Engineer II Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primarily office-based with time spent in lab or production environments depending on project phase
- May require use of PPE in certain areas
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and use hands for extended periods
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds
