The Sterile Processing Technician, also known as the SPD Technician, plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the Sterile Processing Department in a hospital. As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will be responsible for following policies and procedures for the decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and storage of patient care instrumentation, equipment, and supplies. The Sterile Processing Technician is an integral part of ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in healthcare settings.

Responsibilities of a Sterile Processing Technician

  • Sterile Processing Technician: Assisting with the training of new staff.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Ensuring the prudent use of resources and maintaining inventory efficiently.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Following hospital safety and infection prevention policies and guidelines for self, patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Maintaining professional behavior and appearance.

Education Qualifications and Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To qualify as a Sterile Processing Technician, you should possess the following:

  • Sterile Processing Technician: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Ability to clean, sterilize, assemble, and store medical supplies and equipment according to established standards and procedures.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Effective prioritization and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Establishing and maintaining respectful relationships with a diverse population.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Following policies and procedures, including basic arithmetic and inventory calculations.
  • Sterile Processing Technician: Maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
