Senior Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities
- Develop an environment of continual improvement through the use of Lean tools.
- Be able to describe the quality policy and goals, your contribution to quality, and the effects of not observing quality and customer requirements.
- Design of new product data including mechanical models and drawings, simulations as required, sketches, and bills of material which meet or exceed provided performance and cost criteria.
- Contribute to product strategy development and portfolio planning.
- Consistently demonstrates extremely high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity.
- Translate conceptual designs into a fully detailed CAD representation.
- Give presentations to critical/high-level customers and effectively represent team in design reviews and cross-organizational teams.
- Establish clear communication between Engineering groups and NPI members to establish an integrated, coherent product and project execution.
- Ensure that the system satisfies the customer’s requirements, with the least economic impact on the company, and directs the team in instances of under design, scope creep, and over-design.
Senior Mechanical Engineer Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- 15 years plus experience in mechanical engineering
- Advanced understanding of modern 3D CAD and data management tools (i.e. Solid Edge, ERP, Design Manager, and PCBA import)
- Advanced understanding of detailed drafting techniques (i.e. tolerances, surface finish, GD&T, BOM’s and revision control)
- Advanced understanding of mechanical design techniques (i.e. electronic assemblies, sheet metal fabrication, machined parts, injection molded parts, tolerance stack up and design for manufacturability).
- Advanced understanding of simulation tools for thermal dynamics, fluid dynamics, and stress/strain analysis of assemblies. (i.e. FEA, and Simscale).
- Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of specialty.
- Ability to operate test equipment related to job. Able to use phone; communicate using speech; hearing and vision skills; sit or stand for moderate periods.
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, System, or other relevant Engineering field preferred.
- Experience in instruction or training of other engineers in all aspects of mechanical design and simulation preferred.
- Experience with 3D CAD design for parts and assemblies of RF/electronic devices preferred.
- Experience in rapid prototyping techniques for machining, forming, and injection molding preferred.
- Experience in rapid prototyping techniques and limitations for 3D structures (i.e. 3D printers) preferred.
