The HR Specialist provides support in various areas of Payroll, Benefits, and Human Resources, with an emphasis in supporting Payroll. Responsibilities include accounting tasks, onboarding, employment record maintenance, development and training, and payroll preparation. The role requires following instructions and pre-established guidelines, working under immediate supervision, and reporting to a supervisor or manager. 

Payroll Specialist Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting with payroll journal entries. 

  • Reviewing employee timesheets to ensure payroll system accuracy. 

  • Processing regular and supplemental monthly payroll reports for all employee groups. 

  • Ensuring accurate information for current and new employees is reflected in the payroll database. 

  • Preparing payroll reports such as benefits and state and federal reports. 

  • Recording financial transactions, maintaining accounting records, and preparing reconciliations. 

  • Assisting with onboarding new employees. 

  • Handling 401(k) enrollment and maintenance. 

  • Managing benefit enrollments, maintenance, and terminations. 

  • Electronically filing forms. 

  • Assisting with offboarding terminated employees. 

  • Performing data entry and maintenance of employee records. 

  • Supporting the HR team with administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, and organizing documents. 

Payroll Specialist Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Associates (required) or Bachelor's (preferred) degree in Accounting. 

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Accounting Field. 

  • 3-5 years of previous experience in Accounting. 

  • 1-2 years of previous experience in HR (preferred). 

  • Proficiency in data entry and strong attention to detail. 

  • Judgment and confidentiality. 

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
