Design Engineer

Columbus, Ohio
As a Design Engineer you’ll focus on designing and optimizing critical components for continuous manufacturing including bushing and hardware.

Design Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Develop bushing designs and hardware packages for plants, prioritizing performance, durability, increased throughput, and cost efficiency.
  • Create and oversee mechanical drawing packages, ensuring they meet standards and tolerances.
  • Collaborate with vendors to explore new applications and materials as needed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues with support teams, including evaluating failures and inspections.
  • Support innovation projects and gather data for modeling and design work.
  • Conduct post-analysis on trial bushings to learn and improve designs.
  • Collaborate with the Capital Delivery team on rebuild support and start-up activities.
  • Engage with customers and conduct plant visits to understand requirements and implement improvements.
  • Develop and refine simulation procedures using Computational Fluid Dynamics and structural Finite Element Analysis.
  • Work with CAD resources to create high-fidelity geometry for simulations and automate simulation setup using Java scripting.
  • Conduct experiments and validate simulation procedures in lab and factory settings.
  • Travel occasionally (up to 25% with some international travel) to support projects and customer interactions.
Design Engineer Qualifications:
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on thermal/fluid sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in mechanical design, drawings, and manufacturing of mechanical parts.
  • Proficiency in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) codes.
  • Strong Java scripting skills or experience with object-oriented coding.
  • 0-5 years of experience in a CFD analyst role or thermal/fluid systems design.
  • Field experience in manufacturing operations support is a plus.
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or advanced expertise in thermal/fluid sciences is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical heating, controls, metalworking, and welded components is beneficial.
  • Project leadership experience with scope, schedule, risk, and change management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage employees at all levels.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and willing to continue learning and growing in a specialized field.
