EHS Specialist reports to the EHS&S Manager, will assist in the implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety programs and initiatives in support of one or more site programs, Responsible Care Management System, facility and corporate goals. A change agent for process, system improvement, and integration of technology; and developing and administering policies and procedures.
 
EHS Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Assisting in ensuring compliance to all safe work practices, regulatory stands (EPA, DOT, OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and plant policies and procedures.
  • Provide regulatory and technical process support to existing and new equipment.
  • Drives and conducts training for all EHS&S activities at the site, including development, implementation, and documentation as defined by the compliance schedule by various means -  in person, computer based training, group sessions. Etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory inspections as they pertain to the sites.
  • Participates in all aspects of incident investigation; verifying root cause and verifying that recommended corrective actions are adequate to address the root cause findings.
  • Contributes to audits as applicable and participates in internal audit closing meetings, assisting with the development of corrective actions, implementation of approved actions and follow-up for effectiveness after completion.
  • Acts as a leader in driving site safety culture, including participating/leading the site's safety committee
  • Conducts Environmental, Health and Safety surveys, inspections, audits to identify potential regulatory/safety risks.
  • Perform, document and trend behavioral safety observations.
  • Assists in providing oversight to Plant's hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage handling and transport programs.
  • Assists in Environmental, Health and Safety procedure improvement and auditing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EHS Specialist Qualifications:
  • Minimum associates degree in Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, or in an equivalent technical field. A BS degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of work experience in environmental, health and safety field. Chemical manufacturing preferred.(Including internship/co-op)
  • Knowledge of EHS consensus standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, PSM and Behavior Based Safety. Microsoft Office Suite, SAP experience is a plus).
  • Must be able to complete a medical evaluation by a physician that certifies the ability to wear a respirator.
  • Able to work off-shift hours on occasion based on site needs.
  • Advanced organization, multitasking, and prioritization are essential skills for success in this role, as well as excellent oral and written communication.
  • Ideal candidate would be a self-starter that is comfortable both working independently as well as on a team.
