The Senior Mechanical Engineer plays a crucial role in the development of innovative consumer and commercial products, overseeing the engineering process from concept to initial production. With a focus on project completion, this individual coordinates internal and external resources to ensure all engineering tasks are accomplished. Additionally, the Senior Mechanical Engineer takes on engineering responsibilities when internal or external technical resources are unavailable. This position offers diverse projects across various sectors, including medical devices and consumer goods.

Senior Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Manage Technical Resources: Oversee technical resources within the scope-of-work constraints. Recommend necessary changes to Project Management team. 

  • Lead Transition to Production: Guide engineers, mechanical designers, and prototype technicians in the transition from feasibility prototypes to production-ready designs.

  • Client Solution Presentations: Support the Project Manager in presenting solutions to clients, effectively communicating the advantages, challenges, and tradeoffs of different technology options.

  • Collaboration and Consumer Insights: Collaborate with consumer research and industrial design associates to translate consumer research findings into product requirements.

  • Mechanical Design Analysis: Perform structural and thermal mechanical design analysis using FEA.

  • Patent Landscape Review: Review the general patent landscape, identify potential design issues, and draft invention disclosures. Collaborate with outside patent counsel for more formal IP research.

  • Feasibility Studies and Prototyping: Coordinate technical feasibility studies, including the design, fabrication, and evaluation of proof-of-concept prototypes. Collaborate with prototype technicians to improve prototypes iteratively.

  • Adherence to Standards and Requirements: Ensure designs meet applicable standards and requirements such as ISO, UL/CSA, IEC, etc.

  • Support Sourcing and Technology Transfer: Assist the sourcing group in technology transfers to potential manufacturers. Provide task-level assistance to the sourcing group, including site visits and communications.

  • Technical Research and Engineering Studies: Coordinate independent technical research and engineering studies.

  • Project Meetings and Continuity: Participate in regular internal and client meetings to ensure team continuity and cohesion.

  • Mentorship and Positive Work Environment: Demonstrate respect and support for colleagues at all levels, contribute to a positive work environment, and mentor junior associates.

  • New Business Development Support: Assist the New Business Development team in generating scope-of-work documentation.


Senior Mechanical Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical disciplines.

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering product development.

  • 5+ years of experience with mass production methods, including molding, stamping, extrusion, assembly, coating, and plating.

  • Demonstrated experience in DOE and technical feasibility studies.

  • Proficiency in PTC Creo CAD software.

  • Proficiency in CFD and FEA for structural and thermal product development.

  • Competency in CREO Mechanisms Dynamic Analysis, including modeling and applying constraints and boundary conditions to analyze complex mechanisms.

  • Ability and willingness to work on various product types.

Senior Mechanical Engineer Desired Requirements:

  • Experience in global component sourcing and vendor selection.

  • Experience with site visits to off-shore manufacturers.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
